SPCC won MACC season opener by 135 runs. Amit Singh scored century in his debut.

April 01, 2007

SPCC started their season with a good marginal win over CICC. Muzaffer and Guru batted exceptionally well and laid the platform and the quick burst in the end by Harish(50 in 20 balls) took SPCC total tally to massive 326 runs. Amit Singh scored a magnificent century (115* runs) for SPCC and was declared Man of the Match.

Charlotte International Cricket Club is the new comers to MACC league and they are as passionate as any other team in the league to play cricket. They are yet another healthy addition to MACC. Both teams along with their debutant Captains arrived on time. Steady drizzle in the morning and wet ground stopped from starting the game. As both teams started talking about rescheduling the game for another day, conditions improved and sun was out. By considering the time lost and  rain returning in the afternoon, both umpires proposed to play game with 30 overs each. Both Captains agreed, Coin flipped and went CICC’s way. Looking at ground and weather conditons, CICC decided and put SPCC into bat.

SPCC were confident after winning all three pre-season games. Swapan and Muzaffer were sent to kick off SPCC innings. A little misunderstanding in the third over cost Swapan his wicket. Dangerous man Rahul also came back quickly, when Vishal trapped him LBW. Muzaffer, who had very good pre-season games and was looking well settled. He got applauded from crowd by playing some beautiful shots.

Muzaffer scored thirty ball 40 quick runs. More than half of his runs came from boundaries. He lost his wicket when Rose took an excellent catch at short covers. Roberts put his team on top when he clean bowled Baseer. At the end 9 overs SPCC were 93 with the loss of 4 wickets and in a state of concern But Amit along with Guru steered SPCC innings and build up a partnership of 101 runs for the 5th wicket.

Amit played sensibly and relied mostly on singles and doubles. His 86 balls century saw ball rolling over the boundary line 14 times. Guru provided an excellent support from the other end and contributed valuable 26 runs. After the departure of Guru, Harish came into bat and started banging the ball everywhere. He scored whirlwind 66 runs of just 26 deliveries with four 4s and seven 6s. Both batsmen entertained the crowd thoroughly and took SPCC final score to 326 runs.

CICC started their innings with Rose and Roberts. Rahul and Guru led the bowling attack. Guru had Roberts bowled with beautiful delivery in the 2nd over. Wilson joined Rose in the middle .. Both started playing with out giving any room for errors and ready to build the partnership. Muzaffer and Khurram too bowled their quota but didn’t get any more wickets but was not giving away many runs either. Wilson played some beautiful eye catching strokes and scored 44 runs.

With every over, the required run rate was going higher. A wild full swing by Wilson against Baseer saw the ball passing between bat and pads into the middle stump. Gustafson came to crease but he had a huge task ahead of him. He recorded the very good half century of 69 runs in 50 balls with nine 4s and three 6s. Rose tried his best but he departed after making 44 runs of 52 balls, caught by Anish off the bowling of Muzaffer. In the end CICC’s total was 191 runs with the loss of 3 wickets. It was a good batting performance from CICC, considering they are playing their very first game in the league.

Thanks to all cricket lovers who came to the ground to support their teams. Many thanks to Wajahat for keeping up with the scorebook and being a wonderful photographer. SPCC would like to thank CICC for a good game. Both teams will meet again next month at Reedy Creek CG.
