SPCC vs CCCC, Pre Season Game 2, Reedy Creek Park
SPCC win by 6 wickets over PTCC
Deepak Bhat

April 5, 2009

SPCC 198 for 4 in 26 overs (Sumit 44, Anish 22, Swapan 19) beat PTCC 197 for 8 in 35 overs (Venkat Siva 4 wkts) by 6 wkts

Player of the match: Venkat Siva

It was a warm sunny day….And someone has said when it is warm and sunny go and Play cricket….That is what was done when SPCC took on PTCC for a friendly game. The toss was won by PTCC and they elected to bat.

Deepak and Venkat Shiva started the proceedings for SPCC…some tight bowling in the initial overs kept the runs in check. Soon Venkat Shiva stuck when he had the batsman play a ball that was moving outside into the safe hands of Venkat at point….Meanwhile Deepak kept on things tight from the other end…Venkat stuck again and soon was among wickets…His influence on bowling was such that when the first drinks break was taken PTCC had lost 5 wickets and all the wickets were taken by Venkat Shiva…kudos to him.
Superb display of swing bowling.

After the drinks break the spinners came on…But now PTCC batsman Jawaad had got his eyes set in…Him along with his partner set out to create a small partner ship for PTCC. Subhashish, Deepak, Saket and Amit bowled in brief spells till the second drinks break was taken…At that time PTCC was doing good….PTCC was still 5 wickets down and their aim after the drinks break was to accelerate..

Amit took on the ball after the second break and got success on his very first ball when he had the batsman clean bowled…Jawaad had meanwhile played a resilient innings and had completed a well deserved half century…Jawaad was the next player to go when he was caught and bowled by Deepak…..Baseer soon got a wicket too….Pavan and Raghu chipped in with few overs as well.

PTCC played out the 35 overs and had scored 197 runs with loss of 8 wickets.

SPCC’s innings started with Saket and Swapan, both played some aggressive shots. Swapan’s pull on a short ball and Saket’s six on the covers were some of the shots that pleased the audience. Saket was unlucky for getting out caught behind when he was all set. Sumit joined Swapan and from the word go started playing his shots. It was a delight to watch him play. Swapan was run out for 22. Anish joined in the middle and both of them kept the run rate in check with occasional boundaries and singles. It was sensible cricket from both of them. It was this partnership between Sumit and Anish which diminished PTCC’s hope. SPCC reached 100 for the loss of only 2 wickets. Sumit missed his half century by just 5 runs. We still needed 60 odd runs when we lost Anish’s wicket too. After that Raghu and Amit continued on the footsteps of the previous partnerships and ensured that SPCC’s reached the target without losing any wickets. Mani and Venkat were sent at the end of the innings to display their talent and boy! They hit some massive sixes.

Thus SPCC reached their target with 9 overs still remaining. It was a good outing By SPCC Players.

Go SPCC……..
