Eppidi Irruka ……….. (Tamil translation for what’s up people)….It
was hot sweltering day for at Reedy Creek Park. Match started
late, as the other team did not arrive on time. As expected
Subashis, who was handling the captain role, won the toss.
Looking at the conditions on the ground, SPCC decided to field
first.
Tarun and Kalyan started the proceedings for SPCC. Tarun bowled
a very tight over where he had a missed chance. Both of the
bowlers bowled sensibly for the first six overs. But SPCC could
not get a break through. In the seventh over, Deepak was
introduced into the attack. On the very second ball of his over,
Deepak clean bowled Shibraz. Soon he was also involved in the
run out with Subashis’s help of their well-set batsman Shakeel.
Sadashiva was introduced as the other change. His tight bowling
soon yielded him a wicket, when Trilok accepted an easy catch at
the cover boundary. In spite of wickets were falling, runs were
flowing on. Many of them were results of lots of extras given.
Even the fielding was not up to the standards of the SPCC
fielding. I will discuss about this later in the article.
Praveen was soon introduced in the eleventh over and the batsmen
were nervous of him. It was requested by the opposing team that
since this was a friendly game could Praveen tone down his
bowling. Praveen claimed the wicket of Shaji by uprooting his
off stump. Subashis bowled splendidly from the other end. At the
end of Praveen’s spell, Trilok was introduced into the attack.
His first two overs were great, in which he got a wicket where
he clean bowled the batsman. Second was of Rizwan. Trilok had
been hit for some boundaries and a six by Rizwan. However,
Trilok kept on bowling his line and soon he had Rizwan caught at
square leg by Praveen. MCC-United was soon bundled out for 132
runs in 21.4 overs.
SPCC started their proceedings with Anish and Trilok. It was not
a good start for SPCC as Trilok returned back soon when he was
brilliantly caught in the slips. Next batsman in was Kartik. He
played some good drives but was fooled by a yorker, which
shattered his leg stumps. Tarun joined Anish in the middle.
Anish was doing a great job of holding the other end. He hit
some exquisite boundaries. Tarun soon was out too. It was now
left on Mani and Anish to steady the rocking boat and that is
what they did. While Anish was playing the anchor role and
rotating the strike, Mani was playing his shots. His straight
six over the bowler’s head was a treat to watch.
Mani got out LBW and there were still 50 runs left to achieve
the target. Venkat joined in the middle and he started about his
business by playing intelligently and briskly. However, he lost
his wicket when there were about 15 runs still to score and soon
after that Anish too was out. Nevertheless, Subashis calmed the
nerves with the company of Kalyan, by hitting two beautiful and
timely boundaries out of which one was to finish the match in
style. SPCC reached their target in 19.3 overs.
Here comes the tough part. Our fielding was not up to the
standards. It could have been one of those days when nothing
goes your way. If Mani drops a catch in the slips that means we
are having that kind of a day. We have to remember that we will
still have these kinds of day in the coming months. It is how we
adjust to that is important. If it was the heat that was, doing
this to us then this game probably was a good test for us
letting us know what is ahead. Remember even with these mistakes
in fielding we still got 3 run outs. Next week we have a very
important game against HPCC which is a very good team. So let us
put all our energy into the next week and give our 100 percent
for this game.
Quote of the week
The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going
beyond them into the impossible.
