Coming to the Game. The weather was not too bad as it was in high
80’s. SPCC lost the toss and CCC elected to bat first.
Kalyan and Baseer started the proceedings for SPCC. Both of them
bowled beautifully and Baseer was soon rewarded with a wicket in his
second over. Kalyan was also keeping things tight from other end and
was unfortunate when a chance went begging. After a good spell
Subhashish and Praveen were introduced into attack. The opponent
batsmen were playing Praveen carefully but he was soon rewarded for
some fine bowling immediately after drinks break when he clean
bowled the batsmen. After Subhashish went for few runs he was
replaced by Amit.
He
immediately proved effective when he had the batsman try to hit him
for a six but was caught by Baseer. This was one of his four
wickets. It was going to be a good day for Amit later on too when he
would perform with bat. It was a very good second session for SPCC
where they grabbed five wickets. Meanwhile CCC batsmen kept on
chipping away with some very cheeky single and some good hits to the
fence. Mani came to bowl the last over and grabbed two wickets in
the last over. CCC finished with a score of 192/9 wickets in 35
overs.
Anish and Yasir started the innings for SPCC. Anish was soon out lbw
and Yasir too fell to a beautiful delivery which completely deceived
him and knocked down his stumps. Amit and Summit now had the
responsibility of providing stability. Summit tried to play some
good shots but was soon out. Kalyan was send above in the batting
order. Kudos to Kalyan to keep things calm and give some stability
to the situation. He was soon out though while trying to hit a shot
over the fielder. Amit was then joined in the middle by Mani. Mani
played some beautiful shots for sixes. Amit meanwhile was steadily
playing his innings. It was again a treat to watch Amit play his
exquisite shots. Mani soon was out though. And so our captain joined
Amit in the middle.
Both
of them started playing well and set about to reach the target. CCC
bowlers except for the starters were moderate. Their weakness was
greatly exposed by Baseer and Amit. But with about 59 runs left
Baseer went for a shot that he regretted later. So in went Trilok.
He played with great confidence but was soon unfortunately run out.
So now the batsmen left on the pitch were Venkat and Subhashish and
there were still about 29 runs to be scored. In this situation one
needs to have nerves of steel. And that is what these two batsmen
proved they had. They played their inning ball by ball and played
intelligently. Hence SPCC reached their target in 34.3 overs. What a
thriller.
