Heroics from Baseer sailed SPCC
Pramod Poojary
June 13, 2010
SPCC 243/6 in 26.2 overs( Baseer 125*,Miten 40*) beat TGCC 240/10 in 30 overs (Mayuresh 127,Siddarth 3/54) by 4 wickets.
Player of the match: Baseer Ahmed
SPCC won by 4 wickets against TGCC to make it 3 victories in as many matches. Top notch all-round display from Baseer scripted this victory for SPCC with crucial support from Miten, Kalyan and Kannan.
TGCC skipper Mayuresh won the toss and with no hesitance elected to bat first. Kalyan and Kannan made best use of new ball by shattering TGCC top order cheaply. But TGCC came back quickly with a solid partnership from Mayuresh and Sanjay. Baseer’s introduction helped in breaking this partnership as he got Sanjay clean bowled. This was followed by another good partnership between Mayuresh and Rohan. Mayuresh was blazing runs all over the park and SPCC bowlers Subhashis, Miten and Pavan had no answer to it. Sid was introduced to provide the breakthrough and he did in no time by getting Rohan LBW. TGCC were losing wickets frequently from one end but Mayuresh was showing good from other end by completing his impressive century. In the end TGCC scored 240 for 10 in 30 overs.
Temperature being in high nineties chasing 240 in 30 overs was not an easy task for SPCC. This was made more difficult when their in-form opening pair of Sid and Rajesh came back to pavilion with not much in the score card. Swapan looked impressive with good drives but a lapse in concentration cost him his stumps. Heat was showing its influence; SPCC batsmen were finding it difficult to apply themselves as Vihang and Anish got cleaned bowled. Before departing Anish had a galvanized partnership with Baseer and the target found to be reachable. Baseer showed his true metal by taking calculative risk and making sure that he takes maximum strike. Kannan helped Baseer by rotating strikes frequently before he got out LBW to Aniruddha. With required run-rate close to 10, the stage was set for Miten to go all out and steer SPCC to victory and he didn't disappoint. Meanwhile Baseer reached his authoritative century and both he and Miten helped SPCC reach the target in 26.2 overs.
Kalyan and Kannan started the proceedings in bowling department very impressively. Well determined bowling from Baseer and Sid to fight back when the chips were down. Kudos to Baseer for his well deserved century which showed a mixture of experience and effervescence. Exuberant batting display from Miten who continued his good form to this match. Excellent catches from Baseer, Miten and Vihang. |
