Namaskar, Adaab, Vanakam, Welcome….This is your host Deepak Bhatt
bringing you the latest in the SPCC world of cricket. September
14th, 2008 started to be a nice sunny day. The prequater final
between OCC and SPCC was going to be played at the Reedy creek park.
There was lot of dew on the grass. OCC had arrived a day earlier
after driving four hours from Richmond, Virginia. As usual our
captain lost the toss. This must be a record in the MACC league.
SPCC batted first. The proceedings were started by Sumit and Yasir.
Initially due to dew conditions the ball was coming slow to the bat
hence making it difficult for both of our batsmen. Sumit soon got
into the groove and hit a beautiful six. Yasir also got into the act
and hit a boundary. But alas Sumit soon got out to a ball where he
thought he would hit it out of the park. Enter Aditya. Aditya was
playing a game after an absence of 4 weeks. He too was initially
finding to hit the ball and was soon out trying to hit a ball that
stopped a little. In went Mr. Amit. He started the proceedings as he
usually does by hitting each ball on its own merit.
Yasir was finally out to a ball that kept low. Praises must be given
to the OCC bowlers Amit and Anshuman who were keeping a tight line
and length. So Amit was now joined in the middle by Baseer. Both of
them knew that this partnership was crucial for the game and they
set about doing so. Enter bowler Umair for OCC. He was given a great
welcome by Baseer in the first over who hit him for plenty of sixes.
Even in the second over he was given the same treatment. But from
third over he got his line and length perfect making things a little
difficult for SPCC batsmen. Amit was soon unfortunately run out.
Trilok joined Baseer in the middle. Baseer meanwhile kept on playing
his shots but was soon caught behind. He played well for his 67
runs. Now it was on Venkat and Trilok to see SPCC through. Trilok
hit a great six but was immediately out when he was clean bowled by
Rohit who was bowling his slow balls very well. Abhijit went in
next. He and Venkat added some score for SPCC including some sixes
by both of them. Abhijit was soon out trying to accelerate the
scoring. Enter Deepak. Deepak hit some lusty shots taking SPCC
beyond the 200 mark.
SPCC ended their innings at 205 runs in 34.5 overs.
Baseer and Deepak started the proceeding for Bowling. Deepak got a
wicket in his very first over when he took a nice diving caught and
bowl chance. Baseer was also into a wicket in the very next over.
Hence OCC was put on defensive right from the beginning. Deepak soon
got another wicket when Amit caught a beautiful catch in the slips.
Deepak was also involved in taking two more catches, which delivered
a crushing blow to OCC batting. Subashis was introduced from 12th
over and boy..was he in a spectacular form! He had 4 wickets in 4
overs just by giving away 3 runs! OCC was finally bowled out for 52
runs in 21.3 overs.
Some words about the OCC team. They were the perfect guest. Cordial
and smiling. This was the first time these two teams had played each
other and it was played in a very friendly atmosphere. SPCC would
like to congratulate OCC team for the good season they have had this
year.
As for SPCC. Congratulations on reaching the quarter finals. Next
week is tough game but if everybody plays to their potential nothing
is impossible.
Quote of the week
The
only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond
them into the impossible.
Go SPCC…………………
