July 19, 2009

CLCC 204 for 7 in 35 overs (Ashish 66, Siddarth 45, Sanjay 28) beat SPCC 117 for 10 in 27.4 overs (Shiv 57, Miten 23) by 87 runs

Player of the match: Shiv Iyer

It was a perfect Sunday morning. Light breeze. Temperature in low 80’s.It was time to play cricket. Subashis lost the toss and SPCC was sent in to bowl.

Deepak and Baseer started the innings for SPCC. Both of them bowled a very tight initial spell. Some chances went a begging. It was a nice session for SPCC to start with. Praveen and Miten were brought in as the first change. Praveen soon got Manfred LBW. Sanjay joined Siddharth in the middle and they soon began to settle down. Siddharth kept on playing the anchors role and let Sanjay do the hitting. After the first break spinners were introduced. Pramod soon got wicket of sanjay when he bowled an excellent ball which spun and clean bowled the batsman. In walked Ashish. This the time when the CLCC batsman picked up the pace. They went for their runs putting pressure on SPCC fielders. This partnership took the game away from SPCC.

Siddharth soon was out when he tried to go for a shot and was caught by Miten. In walked Abhi. He also hit some good shots but soon fell to pramod when he was caught behind by Shiv. Jital was soon run out. Meanwhile Ashish completed his half century and went on attacking the SPCC bowlers. CLCC finished with a score of 204/7 wickets in 35 overs.

SPCC innings did not start on a good note when Wajju was given caught behind. It looked like ball had touched Wajju’s pad but unfortunately had to come back. Shiv was the next batsman in. He hit some good shots and rotated the strike. Sumit was the next person to go when he was run out. Pramod joined Shiv in the middle. Both of them played their shots. Pramod’s boundary of Ashish was a treat to watch. But soon Pramod fell too. He played his shot a tad too early and was caught. Things were not looking too good for SPCC at this stage now and when Venkat too returned back SPCC knew they were in trouble.

Amit and Baseer tried to give Shiv some company but they soon were out too. Miten tried to put in some life with some lusty hitting but to no avail. Meanwhile despite of all these setbacks Shiv kept prodding on like a warrior and completed a well deserved half century. SPCC finally was all out for 117 in 27.4 overs.

SPCC would like to take time here and thank Miten and his Mom for providing such delicious Poha. We would also like to thank CLCC for providing Subway sandwiches and thank Ashwath for keeping everybody hydrated.

As for the team, we lost this game by dropping too many catches, poor fielding and not too great batting. We need to regroup. We just need to play to our abilities. So come on SPCC let us get back into habit of winning again

Quote of the week

"The toughest thing about success is that you've got to keep on being a success. Talent is only a starting point. You've got to keep on working that talent..."
