Batting collapse saw SPCC lost their second game of the season

May 20, 2007

It was an ideal day at Gastonia ground for a clinch game between CLCC and SPCC. Everyone was on time at the ground except for umpires; as a result match didn’t start as scheduled. After wining the toss, CLCC Captain Ashish decided to bat first. This was a perfect decision made after the opening duo Sid and Wasif showed positive attitude from the very first ball as they didn’t allow any SPCC seamers to get their line and length right. Runs were coming at a good 6 to 7 runs per over. This would have continued, however Wasif got out after making an explosive 52. Trilok took an awesome catch. Runs were not easy to come after introduction of spinners and wickets kept falling after regular interval. Trilok, Subashis kept restricting the batsmen. If CLCC needs to win this game they need atleast 200 runs and this was made possible by Ashish’s unbeaten 58 with a good support form the other end by Chetan, Qaiser, Abhi and Krunal. At the end of the innings CLCC set 214 runs for SPCC to win.

Looking at SPCC batting line up, 214 runs is not a massive total. SPCC batsmen just need to lay a good opening platform to win this game. However SPCC lost their first wicket in the third ball of the innings. This brought Mandeep at the crease. Him along with Muzaffar were becoming a threat to the CLCC and were looking to take the game away as they were building a good partnership. But this all went in vain as Qaisar got the much needed break through by trapping Mandeep leg before wicket. Lack of big partnerships was the reason CLCC looked to dominate the game. CLCC bowlers did not waste any time and bowled out SPCC in about 95 runs with Chetan picking up 3 wickets, Qaiser, Sid and Mayur picking up 2 respectively.
