SPCC bowlers earn a memorable 16 runs win over CLCC at Gastonia.

April 22, 2007

SPCC 204 for 8 (Rahul 57, Baseer 44*) beat CLCC 188 (Deepak 3 wkts) by 16 runs

It was the very first win for SPCC over CLCC. By beating them in their home ground make it much sweeter. Hats off to team who fought well for this well deserved and hard earned victory. Team showed the resolute to fight and ‘never give up’ attitude even when chances of winning the game may be well out of their reach.

In a friendly match, SPCC pulled off an upset of sorts, beating CLCC by 16 runs on a warm and sunny day at the Lakhani CG. Powered by sensible knocks from Rahul and Baseer, who were supported by other SPCC batsmen particularly Wajahath, Sandeep, Deepak and Venkat Siva, SPCC posted a decent score and then bowled well enough to defend it.

When they finished on 204 for 8 after 35 overs, SPCC probably had just enough on the board to make a fight of it. CLCC's bowling attack had done well early on in the SPCC innings, but rest of the CLCC bowlers failed to deny SPCC batsmen, who concentrated on running hard between the wickets, only going for the big shots when they had the room to free their arms and time the ball. SPCC won the toss in the morning and elected to bat. They opened their batting with Sumit and Muzaffer. Qaiser bowled a tight spell of 5 overs, which accounted for the wickets of Muzaffer and Trilok for just 12 runs. He was well supported by Sahir who took the wickets of Sumit and Amit in a 5 over spell for 14 runs. SPCC was 40 for 4 after 11 overs. But sensible batting from the next batsmen saw SPCC using their complete quota of overs to take the score to 204 with help of 53 extra runs.

With a strong batting line-up, CLCC should have had thought of no difficulty in chasing down the target. They did well in the beginning of their innings. Openings partnership was about 110 runs, thanks to many dropped catches by SPCC fielders. However, they did not, really get going once spirited SPCC team lifted their game on the field after the drinks break. A well-judged catch by Baseer in the outfield ended the Wasif innings. Tight bowling from Trilok, Amit, Sandeep and Deepak supported the fielders kept the pressure on CLCC all the way to the end. Trilok counted for Wasif and Sahir to turn things to SPCC’s favor. Sumit taken an excellent catch to send back the danger man Qaiser off the bowling of Amit. Excellent throw from Rahul counted for another CLCC wicket. Deepak fooled Abhi with slow ball and also pulled off a terrific one handed catch off his own bowling to collect for his third wicket of the match. Siddarth, who was settled and playing well was bowled by beauty from Sandeep. Final CLCC wicket was down when Sandeep hit the stumps with a direct throw.
