After an uncanny cloudy morning the captains of the two teams
walked to the pitch around 10.30 am for the toss. Subashis was
at the helm this time and as everybody knew he would win the
toss. So SPCC decided to bat. Anish and Swapan opened the
innings. They played beautifully, setting up a good partnership
against a good quality bowling attack. Both of WSCC opening
bowlers, Khawas and Sikander, were up to the task and were
bowling good line and length.
SPCC lost their first wicket in the 11th over when
Swapan was adjudged LBW, after playing a good inning. Meanwhile
Anish on the other end kept on continuing the good innings that
he was playing. It is always a treat to watch a left handed
batsmen play his shots. Anish, who completed his fifty and
looked set, was caught soon while trying to hit the maximum on
the leg side. Abhijit also lost his wicket when he was clean
bowled. Soon Tarun and Ashok were at the crease but Ashok too
lost his wicket trying to play a shot he should not have played.
Harish entered at this stage and he too lost his wicket. Hence
SPCC who was at one stage placed beautifully at 97 for 1 in 15
overs was 113 for 5 by 20th over.
Tarun meanwhile kept on playing beautifully from the other end.
He hit some glorious sixes and boundaries. Wajahath kept him
good company from other end. Both of them played intelligently
and sensibly, thus pulling SPCC out of the slump which was
created by the mini collapse. Wajahth got out soon trying to hit
a slow delivery. Trilok who was playing on the other end was
playing sensibly, taking runs and giving the strike as much as
to Tarun. He was clean bowled at 65 while trying to accelerate
the inning. With about 3 overs left the remaining batsmen to
follow had only one option of hitting. Hence the next victim was
Deepak when he was caught at the boundary trying to go for some
quick runs. Kartik joined Trilok after the fall of Deepak’s
wicket. Mean while Trilok went berserk in the last 3 overs
hitting some beautiful sixes. SPCC ended their innings at 257/8
in 30 overs.
Tarun opened the bowling for SPCC. He got success on the second
ball of the inning when Sikander went for a rash shot was
beautifully caught by Abhijit who had to run back to take the
catch near the boundary. Sami joined Moeen at the fall of
Sikander’s wicket. Both of them had a very strong leg side.
Anything on the leg side was punished by them. Deepak took the
second over and bowled a good line and length. Deepak was
rewarded for his bowling in the second over that he bowled when
Moeen offered a simple catch to Wajahath. Tarun continued to
taking wickets regualry and eneded his spell with 5 wickets!
Deepak was given a breather after 7 overs and Trilok was
brought. Trilok struggled to hold the new ball and was unable to
bowl with any kind accuracy. In the 11th over Deepak
was brought back. After going for some runs he got the batsmen
to snick the ball which was beautifully caught by Harish. Thus
the batting team had lost more than the half side under 50 runs.
Meanwhile Subashis took the ball from the other end and soon got
Sami out. Sami played well for his 45 runs and was the only
batsmen who looked as a threat. Kartik was introduced after
Subashis. Though initially going for some runs Kartik too got a
wicket. In the next over Subashis cleaned bowled their last
batsmen and hence the WSCC innings was done in 14 overs for 98
runs.
It was a good team effort overall for SPCC. The catches were
taken. Wides were kept in control. Fielding looked tight. The
only thing SPCC has to be wary about is Complacency. The mini
collapse that happened during the batting can be avoided. For
WSCC, bowling was their strong area. Batsmen need to try to stay
long at the crease. Sami batted very well. |
