May 31, 2009

Player of the match: Shiv Iyer

It was a hot and a humid day. SPCC was playing against USC on the Reedy Creek ground. SPCC won the toss and elected to bat.

In went Shiv and Swapan. Both of them started well. Shiv was aggressive from the beginning hitting some beautiful sixes on the off side. Swapan gave him a good company from the other side. Both of them put up about 49 runs when Swapan fell to a good angling ball. In went Sumit. He too was in good form. Shiv went on to complete his half century before getting out LBW. Pramod joined Sumit in the middle. Sumit was soon out too and it was now left on the pair of Baseer and Pramod to provide some stability to the innings. Both of them were on top of their game. Pramod’s ground shots and Baseer aggressive batting were a treat to watch. Both of them completed their well deserved half centuries. Saket and Venkat played aggressively and got SPCC some well needed runs. Deepak, Subashis and Shiva too chipped in with few runs. SPCC eventually finished their innings with 280 runs in 34.5 overs.

Deepak and Siva started the proceedings in bowling for SPCC. Siva was soon awarded a wicket when the batsman mistook a direct ball and was clean bowled. In walked Sejal. He took the SPCC bowlers to cleaners. It was the introduction of Praveen in the 11th over that provided crucial breakthrough for SPCC. Praveen was back to his old form and one really fast ball rattled Sejal. Very next ball found the edge of his bat and it was gladly accepted by Shiv. Even after the fall of Sejal’s wicket the USC batsmen were scoring run briskly. Subashis soon came in for bowling and was took two wickets in his very first over. USC were still in sight of the target because of some brisk batting by USC opener Srikanth and captain Sunny. But as the overs were dwindling down, the asking rate was started climbing up. This led to Sunny’s downfall when he in process of increasing runs went for the big shot was caught by Baseer at long on. Subashis completed his quota of 7 overs taking 3 important wickets and keeping SPCC in the hunt. With 7 overs still remaining and some 70 runs needed and USC batsmen showing no intent of slowing down, Praveen and Deepak bowled some tight overs, which eventually put the clamp on USC run rate. Saket bowled a great 34th over and it was all said and done for the USC team. SPCC won the game by 35 runs.

Quote of the week

"Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward team goals. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.."
